Hakata Gion Yamakasa! (博多祇園山笠)2010!!!

Have you ever heard of Hakata Gion Yamakasa?!
Yamakasa is one of famous festival here in Fukuoka and held from July 1 to 15 by Kushida Shrine in Fukuoka City.

Then main event is Oiyama on July 15th.
The first float leaves at 4:59 in the morning to the beat of a huge drum. After the Hakata iwaiuta is sung under the seidobata flag at Kushida Shrine, the float bursts from the shrine grounds onto the street. The other six floats follow at 5-minute intervals, vying with each other for the best time over the full course, which is about five kilometers long.

We all went to see this Oiyama.
It was raining so hard before it started, but after first team left Kushida Shrine rain stopped.

It was early in the morning, but so fun to watch it!

You can see how we got excited with this race!

Of course, we needed our good sleep after that…
