Dazaifu.

We went to Dazaifu City last weekend.
From Fukuoka City, you can take Nishitetsu train to get there and it will take about 30min. (Don’t forget to transfer the train at Futsukaichi station!)

When you get to Dazaifu station, you are already at the gate of Dazaifu Tenmangu(Dazaifu shrine). You will see many tourists and many small shops which sells souvenirs.

Dazaifu 1

This is a really good place to get some Japanese souvenirs for your friends and family.

Dazaifu Tenmangu is a shrine built over the grave of Michizane Sugawara venerated by the Japanese throughout the country as the Tenman-Tenjin (the deified spirit of Michizane), or the God of literature or calligraphy. So many students go there and wish for passing test.

You could see more info about Dazaifu Tenmangu here : http://www.dazaifutenmangu.or.jp/other/

After your visit to Dazaifu Tenmangu, don’t forget to stop at Komyozenji.
It is a zen temple founded in 1273 by a Buddhist priest. You have to pay 200yen to get into the temple, but it’s worth it. You could sit there and see beautiful Japanese garden. It is really a good place to sit and relax. Actually, it is one of my favorite spot.

Also, you could go to other temples in Dazaifu. There are many historical places you can visit. And, there is national museum as well.

It is not far from Fukuoka city, but still you can get totally different views and feelings yo. Good place to visit when you don’t wanna be in the city.
